Dumphy and Aggie :
Ezra Dumphy
Dumphy arrived on 28th February 2003. He was a shaggy black donkey foal of around 7 months, brought in to help out his owner in Ballinafad.
The foal had been tethered out on rough ground beside the lake without water. This was reported, and on investigation, several neighbours came forward and asked for the foal to be taken away and looked after.
The owner was in agreement and Boyle Gardai were aware. The owner wanted to sell him for 130 euros.
Dumphy was in good body condition as he only had been bought two weeks previously from Drumshambo sales. He was wormed on arrival. Very quiet. Subsequently found to be a stallion and operated on at UCD Vet Hospital October 2004. Now grown into a large, strong, donkey.
AGGIE FRONIGA
Aggie was an aged mare relinquished by her owner in Ballahadereen on 12th August 2005.
She had been brought to her by a neighbouring farmer as unwanted, and she could not manage another donkey as she already had three of her own and a pony.
Aggie’s hooves had been been sawn off but not apparently damaged. She was overweight and a gentle soul. She was adopted immediately by Ezra Dumphy. Now one of our Golden Oldies and very affectionate.
December 1st 2010 - Having had several choking episodes this year, and severe weight loss, Aggie finally went spirit side following another choking episode that the vet was unable to clear. She was nearly blind in her last months and spent a lot of her time in the yard. She was much loved and all who worked around her will miss her "nudge-bumping" her way around looking for a cuddle, or food or both!
